A note to our contestants from Dan Mowry, our judge...
Thank you for all your entries this month. The wonderful thing about this month's criteria is the absence of it, with the exception of one mandate... have fun!
To that end I put aside a certain side of my critical eye and went on "feeling" and hoped to spend some time getting to know the entries to see what fun must have been had using Diard Software's UIC tools.

Best Overall goes to "Asteroid Belt" by Wayne Thompson....$25 Prize |
A comment from our judge...
What took me a little time with "Asteroid Belt" was to just sit back and imagine creating it. There is clear evidence that the artist dug into UIC's tool set of options and had fun with them. It's a piece of space art - no doubt about it. But, it's also an example of experimentation, exploration, and overall time spent delving into the software. If that doesn't suggest that someone was enjoying themselves I don't know what does. The elements are unique. They pique curiosity and you can tell the artist took time in placing so many details that it wasn't a rush through the presets. Well done - the fun shows through and definitely lives up to this month's contest theme!

Best Use of Color
goes to “Jewel in the Mist” By Bill Carey....$10 Prize |
A comment from our judge...
"Jewel in the Mist" - who could ignore the invocation of color described in the title? Jewels are Universally known to be exquisite symbols of color and beauty. This piece suggests the most calming hints of lavender, gold, silver, and cyan. Thoughtful use of color that blends well holds this piece together. If it were any more saturated or any less... it wouldn't work so well. One of UICs strong points is the ability to draw upon a full range of colors in unique ways - and it looks as if the artist spent time enjoying this feature.

Most Original
goes to “Kalima” by Joanne Hanny.....$10 Prize |
A comment from our judge...
"Kalima" it's a use of UIC in unique and interesting ways. To take the time to create a piece using the UIC tools that's so atypical speaks to the originality right away. UIC tools have proved to be versatile in many styles of art and this artist reminds us that they can be versatile in the entire creation of the art.

Honorable Mention goes to “Fighters” by Jason M. Warren.....$10 Prize |
A comment from our judge...
You can't go wrong with spaceships and planets. I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the technical merits of correct lighting and coloration, but it's also evident that the fun in creating space scenes is timeless. Imagining spacecraft and other worlds is always enjoyable and it's a pleasure to see it brought to artistic life like this.
